TYPICAL CONVENTIONS

How my magazine is conventional:

FRONT COVER: My front cover follows the typical conventions of the hip-hop genre as well as similar hip-hop magazines .   It includes the following features; a masthead in the primary optical area which is the artist centred directyl in the middle of the page. I have also included the conventional colour-scheme that is typically associated to the hip-hop genre, being red, black and grey, as they mainly connote aggression, violence and dominance , all features associated with males. I've also included a conventional image in which his facial expressions convey anger and attitude which is conventionally used in hip-hop magazine, aswell as typical costume and jewlerry which is a clear indication of the hip-hop cultre. The layout of my magazine is conventional as it follows the route of the eye, as everything is large and made to stand out as the colours and fonts i have used are vibrant and bold upon a light background creating a contrast in colours which makes it stand out.My front cover is eye-catching and appealling. It includes a cluttered style format of coverlines to grab the readers attention.  The use of pull quotes and cover lines are also conventional to the genre as they are interresting and enagaging for the reader. I have also used a barcode, price and issue number which is also typically conventional.

CONTENTS PAGE: My contents page is conventional to the hip-hop genre as it follows a consistent house style and colour-scheme suited to the genre, similar to other exsisting hip-hop magazines such as the use of the colours red, black, and grey. It's also conventional because of the sans serif fonts used as this is conventional and appeals to the target audience. Also the image is conventional as it includes conventional mise-en-scene such as the clothing being related to hip-hop fashion and style, , the location being a rundown building which cannotes danger which relates to the hip-hop genre, and  the facial expressions are conventional, looking aggressive and conveying violence and anger. Another feature of my contents page that it conventional is the genral layout of the page. The image is the main focus of the page and follows the route of the eye in which  the main information is on the left hand side.

Double page spread: My double page spread is conventional as it follows a consistent house style and colour-scheme as the rest of my magazine, espically the front cover as the main colours are red and black. I used the same style of fonts and colours, which are conventional of the genre. The main image is conventional as it's a close-up shot of the artist; it's conventional as it shows the artist distinct facial expressions and shows the body language and costume so aggression can be potrayed. The font is conventional because it's all in sans serif which appeals to the young audience and the hip-hop genre, and the use of the heading, stand first and kicker draws attention to the article, making it more interesting for the audience. Also the use of box saying exclusive make it seem more interesting. The use of the image looking away from the camera signifies that the artist has attitude which is conventional. The text is structured in paragraph format so that it is easily readable and visually appealling. However is seperated by a pull quote so that the reader doesn't get bored of readig lots of information so they stay interested.
